Odette
We are in the city of Athens, which is the capital of Greece! We are currently performing in Swan Lake. It is a tale about the love of Prince Siegfried for Odette, who, because of the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart, has been transformed into a swan by day. At midnight she is allowed to return to her human form but only until dawn. Odette can only become a princess again if a man swears his love for her but Von Rothbart is determined that Siegfried will break his oath to Odette by falling in love with his own daughter. We are rehearsing very hard but we have had a few moments to explore this ancient city!
We have visited the Acropolis or “Sacred Rock” of Athens, which is the site of the four greatest masterpieces of classical Greek art – the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheum and the Temple of Athena Nike. The Parthenon is the most important monument of the ancient Greek civilization. You have probably seen a picture of it before as it is the international symbol of Greece. It was built AGES ago, somewhere between 447 and 438 B.C! Below the Acropolis is the ampitheatre Herod Atticus Odeon built by the Romans in 161 AD and is still used today for classical concerts, ballet and performances. Did you know that Greece also has 227 islands that people live on? Only 78 islands have more than 100 people living there at any one time! The beaches are beautiful, we are enjoying the great weather. We promise to write in a month or so…
Take care
